RAMBLIN' RAG #11
Date: 6.20.02

Kansas City Quilt Market, "Crafting Cloth Dolls" book, Online Stitching Dictionary, Reets' Hand Dyed Wools, upcoming shows, jib jab.

H I !!

What is up with this four month slack between newsletters? Lordy Lordy! Of course you never even noticed because you have probably been even busier than I have.
Have a number of new designs but guess what? For the first time ever, I went to Quilt Market without a new doll. Had one almost done but she didn't quite make the boat. Will finish her soon. Also have a new Santa drawn up so watch for him. You'll see four new designs that are linked on the home page. For those of you looking for the tote patterns that come with the wooden handles...we had a production problem with the handles which is now finally solved i believe but it will be a few more weeks before we have the handles stocked and are able to offer the pattern

In spite of a rather last-minute decision to attend Kansas City Quilt Market, it turned out to be very nearly our best Market ever. Bunches of shop owners commented on how much wool and Woolfelt was present. I saw very little of what was new at Market and ironically, I had to go to the local quilt shop for their "What Was New at Market" presentation to find out....and that was very limited. I saw a few of the booths that were in the nearby isles and one that caught my eye was "All Through The Night"...I think that was their business name but i'm not sure. I wanted to go back and meet them but never got the chance. Perhaps they have a website...i'm sure you will see their designs in a lot of shops. Kindred Spirits were nearby so I got to see their booth as well.....oh my.... ALWAYS awesome. How is it they stay so modest and endearing and did you ever hear of anyone in the world who doesn't just love their designs? Konfettis had an ingenious booth and an incredible variety...lots of rug hooking...yum. I was so thrilled to see old friends that I hadn't seen in two years and I absolutely loved Kansas City! The people there were incredibly helpful and so congenial.

Tulip Fairy

Years ago I submitted a doll design to a doll artist that was going to do a book. I had finally forgotten about it and then one day I was emailed by a thoughtful customer that they really liked my fairy on the cover of a new cloth doll book. It was a thrill to see Tulip dressing the cover - the book itself was quite some surprise as I hadn't realized it was going to be such an extensive doll making book. "Crafting Cloth Dolls" by Miriam Christensen Gourley, contains patterns, techniques and wonderful dolls as well. The book incorporates many styles and offers up a dish for all skill levels. I think one of my favorites was Miriam's charming Shaker Doll...very antique looking.

About the hand dyed 100% wool... (This is not the wool/rayon WoolFelt®) New line of colors coming soon. Right now, you can find a kit of hand dyed wool to go with the new design the Bell Ringer, pattern #RR79. At a later date we'll have the fat eighths, quarters, half yards and yards. I have partnered with the talented Carin Engen (a famous fiber artist around these parts) to bring you a shower of colors more luscious than ever you have seen. The partnership was easy....we both seem to love the same colors!

Remember the Wool Street Journal I mentioned in NSL #10? Well I have received two issues so far and it is a warm and wooley little publication. Small but very worthwhile. I can imagine it will only get warmer and woolier.

Get those stitcheries back out gals. If'n you tucked em away in your "undones" corner because learning all those stitches was just too frustrating, then this site is for you. I hope I am the first to tell you about this on-line stitching dictionary by Sharon Boggon. I want you to be as excited about it as I am. It has very detailed instructions and illustrations for nearly every single embroider stitch. Indeed a treasure you will be certain to bookmark. If the link below isn't clickable for you, copy and paste the following in your browser address box.

This show, which is always a great one, has a new set up with added vendors. The featured quilt artist is Alex Anderson. A lot of you know her from HGTV's "Simply Quilts". She seems a pleasure to meet, sweet and humorous - I hope i get to make her acquaintence. There will be a new demonstration area at this show and I've signed up to do a little "wool stitches" demo and possibly one on needlepunch.

This is a very large show with well over 100 vendors, classes, wonderful quilts, wearables and other incredible displays of fiber arts. The show has always been abuzz from start to finish. Not sure of the price for this one but try and take one of the classes...i hear they are notable.

She lost her mind... but she never missed it...

I heard it on the radio and laughed all the way up the hill.....til I realized how well it applied to me....BOOOOO HOOOOO!

    toodaloo,
    Reets
