RAMBLIN' RAG #12
Date: 1.19.03
New 100% Bolt Wools, Vintage Style Tote Handles, Goal Searchin Party, FlyLady.net, Folsom.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL !!

...it's not over yet is it?..... I'm running a bit behind.

Getting to the news..you can read about and order the off-the-bolt 100% wools that are now available by going to "Walk On The Wool Side", in our navigation bar. Or, you can click here. Starting off with four basic and essential colors. The Camel you will especially love for appliqueing faces and bodies. Bolt wool is pricier than the WoolFelt but more economical than the hand dyed wools. Always keep in mind however that the WoolFelt is only 36" wide while the 100% wools are all 60" wide. These measurements are before shrinkage. The hand dyed wools should be up and available by the end of February.

Well alas the tote handle problem has been resolved..at least for now and forever I hope. You can purchase them separately or with the patterns. See I Love To Stitch and Vintage Tote patterns or the Accessories Page for ordering. I had so hoped they would be in good supply before the holidays because of their excellent giftability but not everything goes as planned and don't you know it! Look for some additional tote designs by summer. See Catherine's tote made out of Bark Cloth on the "Frenz Can Do" page.

And thanks to all of you for sending in pics for the "Frenz" page. I'm not exactly expedient posting your generous pictures but i greatly appreciate receiving each and every one of them. Check out the new entries.

P A R T Y ! !

We had a very pleasant holiday season here but because of weeks of wild and crazy weather, alot of our normal holiday festivities didn't happen, including our sewing club Christmas Cookie Party. Instead we're having a "Goal Searchin" Tea Party. We have invited a nearby sewing club as well. I think i'll make some scones with orange flavored cranberries, lemon zest, pecans and perhaps a bit of lemon glaze on top (sound good?). If they are tasty enough, i'll post the recipe. At the party each person will state one of their sewing goals for the year 2003. It can be a project that they would like to start...or finish, a technique they would like to learn, or even a sewing habit that they would like to establish. We will write them all down and at the 2003 Christmas Party, we'll check the list and see how we did. I just have to share a couple of goal lists that were emailed to me. You'll get a chuckle out of this first one....

"OK, I have a sewing habit I would like to work on. That would be "Do Something".

The next one was sent to me by someone who does more in one day than I can do in a week...and faster than anyone that you could imagine. I call her MIZ ZIP.
goals:
  • 1. Always work in an organized clean work space.
  • 2. Only work in work room, never in the rest of the house.
  • 3. Always pick up messes each day when finished.
  • 4. Never get tangled threads.
  • 5. Always make the perfect quilters knot, with no extra thread hanging off the end.
  • 6. Always have the right colors and qty of threads and fabric when i need it.
  • 7. Have a never ending full bobbin, that doesnt need to be refilled every 1/2 hour.
  • 8. Find the perfect needle that goes through several layers of fabric easily, is long enough to do several stitches at a time. easy to hold to stitch quickly. and doesnt go throught the back of my finger.
  • 9. Always finish a project before starting another.

  • Wow! Don't we all wish we could accomplish just some of those in 2003?......Ok OK...just ONE of those?!!

Hey now...as far as organizational skills go..have any of you visited www.FlyLady.net? I wish I could remember who mentioned it in the digest - I'd offer my gratitude.... I, for some reason followed up on the mention, which I rarely take time to do. Fly Lady is a motivational, organizational, inspirational website that proposes routines for managing a household...and your life as well. When I first visited I almost turned around and slammed the door upon reading that you receive daily emails. I'm glad that something intriqued me enough to peek back in. I am able only to participate in the most MINISCULE way..... yet still, it has made a difference. Running this business has caused me to neglect many things on the poor ole homefront. Like housekeeping....you know..scary stuff in the cupboards...growing things in the shower...and so on. Making matters worse, my youngest daughter recently left for college quipping on her departure..."Have fun cleaning up after everyone!" She should know..her duties were numerous. Left still with two boys, three counting the husband...all willing to be slobs if left unattended, I was ready for any suggestions. Be not discouraged with the daily Fly Lady email reminders - once you become familiar, the subject is enough for the reminder, and you can delete them instantly. I doubt I will ever have time to be a full on participant at Fly Lady but i am definitely feeling its effects..no matter how small...and they seem to be slowly growing, all on their own. Beyond the life skills, Fly Lady offers up a good positive message as well. Check it out and if nothing else...get yourself a feather duster. I did....and yes indeed...I DO use it!

I mentioned Sharon Boggon's online stitching dictionary last time but here it is again for those of you who missed it. It's great!

February 7-9, Folsom "Threads of Love" Quilt Show. We'll have a booth at this show. I love Folsom and thoroughly enjoyed the people and the show last year. This year, following the show, some friends and I are going antiqueing in the near by Sutter's Creek area. I think i have purchased all of about 2 antiques in my life..still waiting to find an antique doll I can afford...but anyway...so fun to be with friends pawing over this and that, letting the mind wander deliciously back to the days of olde...imagining from what rickety porch this old weathered yellow washboard came from and what did the house look like inside...did it have a piano?...a pull down ironing board? Oops! Forgot what I was talking about..oh yes, the Folsom show. Come if you can. Folsom California, Folsom Community Center.

February Class: I'll be at Scottie Dog Quilts in Eureka, Ca. February 22 to teach the "Needles and Pins" sewing kit. It will be the twenties lady version.

If you never got a chance to try out #RR75 "Rabbit and Bird" and #RR76 "Bunny Hop" patterns and kits, check them out on Pattern Page #1. They are so simple and fun and we now have the 100% black bolt wool available to make up the long black pillow in Bunny Hop. Here are some older other bunny patterns:
  • RR40 Jump for Joy - Pattern Page #2
  • RR37 Berdie and Bunny - Pattern Page #3
  • RR03 Swoozie and Family - Pattern Page #4

  • I want to thank you ALL for helping make this past year our most successful year ever. I love that you are enjoying some of my designs and I love communicating with you as well.

May all your goals come true this year.
Think peaceful thoughts and make good cheer.

    Most Sincerely,
    Reets
