RAMBLIN' RAG #13
Date: 5.28.03

Portland Market,New Hand Dyed Wools, Rug Hookin, New FRENZ Gallery pictures, yada yada.

Hiya...

Wanna hear my favorite quote so far this year?

"Life is SHORT.....but IT IS WIDE!"

Divine Secrets Of The Ya Ya Sisterhood.
Have you started your sisterhood yet?...it's a good thing to do....I'm pretty sure.

Another thing I'm pretty certain of...the world has gone to wool. The recent Portland Quilt Market was a wooley wonder with even the most confirmed quilters offering up at least one or two woolish designs. Rug hooking is making a stand as well. Have you tried rug hooking? Soon you will find some supplies on our rug hooking pattern page but for now you can see the new "Hooked Blackbird Mat" pattern. It is simple, great for beginners and hangs charmingly from driftwood. My friend Monika of Folk Art Landing attended market with me and gathered quite a bit of attention in the booth with her wonderful hooked rugs. She sells hooking patterns already drawn on the linen. You can see her incredible creations on her web site (and order too) at folkartlanding.com

And finally...as promised, there is now a page of hand dyed wools for you to drool over or even order. Follow the "Walk On The Wool Side" link. You may find it a chore to have to choose from the wonderful colors...unless of course you decide to order them all. Please be sure and read about them on the ordering page before ordering. You will become addicted as I have once you begin using them in your projects.

I fully intended to send you all a preview of Woolie Frenz before Market and before putting it on the web site but show preparation just didn't allow it...show preparations don't allow for much of anything really. This turned out to be one of the most popular new designs. I did finally tear myself away from wool long enough to do a new tote bag/pillow pattern using prairie cloth - "Flowers And A Lady". Prairie Cloth is a marvelous woven solid by Moda. Ask for it at your nearest quilt shop and try some. Hope to have some of it kitted up for the new tote pattern in the near future.

Thanks for your comments on the wool floss color chart - even tho it was a long time coming you seemed to appreciate it and thanks to some of you that suggested the grouping for easier ordering. I love your help and am grateful for your emails and letters.

Here are the dates of the upcoming shows where you can visit our booth.
  • Redwood Empire Quilters Quilt Show - College of the Redwoods, Eureka, CA. July 26 and July 27.
  • Marin Quilt and Needle Arts Show - Marin Civic Center, San Rafael
    Labor Day Weekend - August 29, 30 and 31st. 10:00 to 5:00.
Demos, Lectures, Drawings, Door Prizes, Vendors, Saturday Children's Workshop, and of course Quilts -
  • Pacific Int'l Quilt Festival - Santa Clara Convention Center
    October 9th thru the 12th. - 10:00 - 6:00 (ends at 5:00 on Sunday)

This is a very large show with well over 100 vendors, classes, wonderful quilts, wearables and other incredible displays of fiber arts.

Oh...remember that scone recipe with the orange flavored cranberries that I told you about last news letter...I have to work on that a bit before I pass it on....sorry if you were holding your breath. It should show up before holiday time.

As always, thanks to all of you for sending in pics for the "Frenz" page. I was so tickled to receive an email and some pictures from Donna Newton who lives in the Pennsylvania town where I was born. She described to me what is where and what is not where it was and what is not there anymore at all. The pictures are from her holiday open house. Wait till you see all the "Joy" dolls made by Cindy Young and her friend Joni, two very talented ladies obviously. Katy Tyni created some brown skin angels from "Angelic Woolies" that are more than enviable. Below are a picture from each. In the Frenz Gallery you will find additional pictures and a bit more information as well. I know it takes time for you to bother with the pictures but they are greatly appreciated and I thank you very much. Feel free all of you, to send in photos of your creations. So till next time, just remember...."the River's WIDE..but it ain't that LONG. ER...what was that now? I fergit.
