RAMBLIN' RAG #14
Date: 11.11.03

Pecan Tassie Cookie Recipe, New bolt wool colors, crow and goose pattern cards, new music piks, two new rusty bell sizes, Frenz Gallery additions, a wish for peace.

Greetings...
I was thinking that one of my boys flipped the calendar ahead to November but am now admitting to myself that next month begins the Christmas rush. I am trying to work on spring designs and next weekend I teach a Woolie Frenz ornament class....I'm confused. The class is at the Itsy Bitsy Quilt Shop in the Victorian village of Ferndale, Calif. It is tiny shop but not a shop to miss if you are in the area. It is a creative little piece of heaven and the owners, a mother and daughter team, are delightful.

Thanks to those of you that reminded me that I would post the Pecan Tassie Cookie recipe. For your scrumptuous recipe, Plus the 7 Layer Cookie recipe repeated, click on that little Christmas Tree
.

Check out the ACCESSORIES Page, link at top of this page, where you will find two new Rusty Bell sizes, 30 mm and a 60 mm with star cut out.

The date for our annual Cookie Sewing Club Party has been set. This year we decided to invite our families instead of another sewing club. It will be an evening party with a cookie trade and pirate game and special guest musicians...my youngest son and his little fiddlin' friend. It's bound to be our best party ever.

There are some more new bolt wool colors on the web site...did you check them out yet? A wonderful Loden Green, a Periwinkle, a rich Dark Brown, some Heathered Bluish Grey and a Dark Green with barely visible peeps of others colors throughout....very interesting. There are many things to keep in mind when choosing either Bolt Wools and WoolFelt but one thing that is forgotten is that even tho Bolt wools are approx. $20 per yard and WoolFelt $7 (soon $7.50), is that preshrunk Bolt wool is about 54" wide and Woolfelt only about 34"wide.

Reets' Not-For-Everyone Music Piks
  • Enchanted - Robert Gass plus his chorale group On Wings of Song. This is a compilation CD of choral chants I would say. Spiritual, meditative, calming.
    Spring Hill Music
    www.springhillmedia.com
I purchased it at a local store. Consider the Alternatives, phone: 707 268-1388.

  • Union by Toni Childs - This is an oldy i rediscovered when my boys reminded me that I could use headphones and listen to cds while doing computer work. They even loaned me their headphones (seeing as how they had long ago broken mine.) Toni is a throaty crooner. Her lyrics, provoking - music, compelling. Addresses injustices but not a whiner.

  • I have not discovered a new Christmas album yet. Have you? My old favorite one was a John Fahey guitar instrumental but sadly...it is not in the jacket and has not been for the last 4 years. And just in case you think that I am boo hooing...
    you are right.

So I hope that you made Mr. Jingles. My friend Karen made well over 20 of them for various quilt shops. She's amazing. I love the way she cleverly displayed them in this picture. One is even decked out in blue wool. Aren't they a basketful of cheer?! This picture along with Sandi Wilhite's version of the Bellringer have been added to "Frenz of Reets' Gallery"

    Karen's Many Mr. Jingles.

Well you have things to do - I will let you go - but not without a very heartfelt thank you for your support and most of all for your very kind and thoughtful notes. I also appreciate and respect each and every comment, request, suggestion...and do my best to respond. You are all well worth the effort in many ways.
    Thank you so much.

    And also....
I'll have to say that this has been an incredibly busy year for us. And so often I am too busy to think about what is going on in the world today...the good...the bad.
And then at times, the voice of the world cries out
I hear it over my own mental chatter.
    I listen....
    and I think....

These wars... they are so disturbing
The stomp of corporate greed... it is simply crushing us all
The plea of Mother Earth - alarming
    Injustices insurmountable
    Violence...popular!!?

often, my thoughts turn to tears...and a feeling of hopelessness
But then thru the sadness, the chatter of the angels comes forth
A chatter rich with reminders of all that is good in the world....
    a chatter full of hope
    love
    listen.... they chatter of peace.
    peace within yourself
    peace within your family
peace among friends, neighborhoods, villages, countries
it has a warm and comfortable and hopeful sound
    then...the chatter turns to silence...

    listen...
    it is the sound of p e a c e
