Salt Lake Quilt Market Miz Nettie shines, Tin Thimble - new shop, Room Renovation, Movie, CD's, Rug Punch Pattern Ready, Bye Bye Medicis Wool Floss ...
Greetings Stitching Friends...Here is summer. That is catch up time for us. Bit of a break between shows. So at last, we are delving into a room renovation. More on that later.
International Quilt Market was in Salt Lake City. We drove. And drove and drove. Fortunate me...I had three great book cd's. My favorite was Ya Yas in Bloom. A delightful sequel to The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. I suggest listening to both, as the reader is divine herself...her artistic vocals add intrigue to a very well written story. While at Quilt Market, I was tickled to see that a doll pattern, Nettie Needles, was one of our biggest hits. She created a bit of a stir. Bless those dollies..I remain a devoted fan, how about you? Quite a gorgeous city is Salt Lake and probably one of the cleanest cities i have ever visited.
Now on the way home from Salt Lake my friend Collett and I stopped at a wonderful new sewing shop, The Tin Thimble. It is in Newcastle California, near Auburn...Sacramento way. If ever you can, you must visit this charming shop. It is vintage, it is cool, it is more than a thimble full of both comfort and excitement. Have a look.
THE TIN THIMBLE
You will want to move in. The owner Sharon assisted by her sister Claire and daughter Emma run the wonderful vintage flavored sewing shop. Besides unusual fabrics they have a line of children's clothing Lil Sweet Peas, all hand made by Sharon. They have hand dyed wools, vintage linens, buttons galore, patterns, and so much more. Auntie's vintage prom dress hangs in all of its splendor high upon one wall. For more pictures of this very unique shop, click here.
Yes...a room renovation. Miz Nettie Needles will have a special place and when it is complete I am changing the name of my work place from "work room" to "studio". Maybe I won't tho...who cares. We only have one counter and one cupboard done so far and I love it already. The greatest thing is getting rid of things...cleaning out! For the most part it will be quite practical but how i would love to have a funky little button cupboard with a paned glass door. Next letter we'll have some pics. If you have any favorite "studio" tips, storage tips, or pictures, please send them to me and I'll post them.
Rug punch is quickly climbing the popularity ladder with the introduction this year of the fine point Oxford rug punch needle. You can use worsted weight yarn, tapestry yarn or 3 strand crewel yarn. Knitting ribbon can also be used as well as 3/32" wide wool strips. You can get a much more detailed look now with this fine point needle. The background can be rug hooking monk's cloth or you can use the linen burlap such as we carry. Both must first be washed and dried for use with the fine point punch. We sell the punch as well and the first pattern is now available...Rug Punch Shepherdess. We have made it up as a pillow but it can also be made into a stool top. At a later date we hope to have some hand dyed yarns available. Here she is.
Make certain you check out our home page for a quick view of our newest patterns. We have a new tote to go with our vintage wooden handles. It has a couple of little bags that you can pop inside also. Simple and trendy. For a small and elegant punch needle project, try our Heart and Flowers pattern. And for your sewing classes, quilt shows or any event that finds you needing a name tag, take a peek at our nifty pattern, Name Tags & Badge Holders. A click on any one of the pictures takes you to the pattern page with a description and ordering info.
Any of you DMC Medicis wool floss fans out there may be very unhappy to hear that the manufacturer has discontinued this wonderful stitching thread. We have limited supplies and some colors are already completely gone forever. Some colors on our web site have close substitutes which we will fill orders with unless you note that you do not want subs. I have used this floss for nearly 10 years and have it listed on 90 per cent of my patterns. Oh well...all things must pass. Something better is in the works. So....we apologize in advance if you do not receive all of the colors you order. Get it while you can.
Reets'-Not-For-Everyone Movie and Music Picks A GOOD YEAR A brilliant money marketer inherits a vineyard in France. Oh the setting....oh the soundtrack....oh the story. Warm and funny, with Russell Crow staring. Love the very eclectic music from this movie...played the soundtrack over and over returning from Salt Lake and each time sang louder and louder. Another CD I seem to be wearing out is AMY WINEHOUSE - BACK TO BLACK
Sultry, Bluesy.... impeccable voice.
We'll have some new punch needle and rug punch items available as well as more wool applique...hopefully the angel stocking. We'll announce them in a couple of months with our next newsletter. Our remaining shows for the year run from Santa Clara California, north to Spokane Washington. Take a glance at our "Shows" page for schedule. Come and say hi if you are near any one of them.
Have a terrific summer, take care, and keep on stitching!
