Soren and Nao happily display their I Ben Good stockings made by my friend Lynn, Soren's mother. Nao's sister Yuko also made a pair of stockings for her children...they are the two little gleeful faces.
Read on to hear the charming story of these cherished stockings...as told to me by Lynn.

She says...

The "full story" of the stockings is even more charming than I imagined. Apparently, when Nao was young, she had asked her mom, repeatedly, for an Xmas stocking, but her mom always said, "no". (The commercial stockings offered for sale in Japan were a bit tacky, and her mom, as the daughter of a highly-respected Japanese artist, had a hard time with the aesthetic of the commercial stockings.)
So Soren promised Nao that they would look for REAL Xmas stockings this year. As they were searching for REAL stockings, I learned of this... and begged him to stop their search until after they received my Xmas package!
Anyway...as you can see from the photos, the end result was really wonderful! I can't remember when I've seen Soren smiling so broadly! And Nao's favorite color is red (in Japanese culture, red is mostly a "boys' color.) So she was thrilled with the girl in red pajamas. I even found some lace in my grandmother's old treadle sewing machine drawer (lace that my grandmother made!), and added it onto the girl's pajamas. And since Soren always loved "pajamas with feet" when he was young, I changed the boy's pj's to pj's with feet.
Thank you SO MUCH for inspiring such a warm exchange of giving, and American culture.

End of Story. See...I told you it was charming.
