HERE THEY COME AGAIN
..... .....
IT'S THOSE WONDERFUL HOLIDAYS !!
I couldn't resist sharing this picture that I snapped on a recent visit back east to my hometown Athens, Pennsylvania. I was awed by this wonderful shop in the Gaffer District of Corning, New York - a historic downtown shopping and dining destination, residential neighborhood, and, the cultural and entertainment center of the region. The district's buildings are mostly brick and accented by an old stone walking bridge that crosses the Chemung River which runs through the town. The shop pictured below is an alterations shop. Don't you love this name....
Mending Your Ways. The owner Florence, reminisced that as a young girl she used to admire the building which housed a quaint flower shop with a greenhouse on the roof. The shop and its warmth lingered in her mind until one fine day it became her alterations shop. I hope you enjoy its beauty and charm.

I hope that you will also enjoy this recipe/gift idea. While staying with my friend Kathi during the Long Beach show, I was delightfully reminded of the days when I made granola for the family. Kathi offered it up every morning, served with yogurt. I couldn't wait to get home and make some. I've given it already as gifts...couldn't wait until the Holidays. I bought an inexpensive set of white ceramic canisters and each worked as a perfect gift container for the granola. Just give the tree a click for the recipe.
APPLIQUE PLACEMENT TIP AND REUSING PLASTIC TEMPLATE SHEETS: Can't believe it took me so long to think of this. Make those expensive template plastic sheets REUSABLE! I used to get the plastic from the hospital but now most x-rays are done digitally, eliminating the use of the plastic film. Some of you like to trace your applique design from the pattern onto plastic template - then lay the traced plastic over your background surface to position your applique pieces. This gives you a placement very close to the original applique shown on the pattern. So...instead of using a permanent marker to trace, use a dry erase marker. When you are done positioning the applique pieces, you can just wipe off the tracing and reuse the plastic for your next project.
Cheri Hogan went apron crazy! Did up our Reversible No-Hem Apron pattern in a multitude of ways.
Victoria Lum began her wool addiction with two of our pincushion patterns, Kind Shepherdess and Chelsea's Pincushions.
Just click on the pics below to see enlarged pictures and read their comments. These have all been added to our Frenz Gallery also.
. . .. ..
Let it be said that I shall never forsake my doll making friends. Greet our newest little friend...Sewer Girl. Along with her pattern comes a small tri-fold wool sewing case. Just click on her picture to find out more about the pattern.
....
Traveled alot this year and sometimes to foreign-to-me places. I had never been to Sonora, CA. but I certainly hope to return when I can see more of that wonderful little historic gold rush town. Nearby too you will find Columbia Historic State Park which is a preserved gold rush-era business district with shops, restaurants and hotels...operating right out of years past. Even a quilt shop exists there. They have special events as well and can you imagine attending one of their Lamplight Tours - magical evenings of Christmas during the month of December. Fascinating place...you can just feel history sweeping through you. Of course many school trips are taken there. What better way to learn history than to live it. See more about Columbia State Park on this web site: www.parks.ca.gov
Though the picture does not do full justice to Amy's Big Bag I have to say, I was so overwhelmed I had to take the picture right in my booth at the Pacific Int'l Quilt Festival. It was made from our On The Road Again, Part 1 pattern. Please click on the pic below and then scroll down to the bottom of that page for a better view and the story.

My sister-in-law, a very busy nurse, wife, mother, somehow found time to do up quite a few of the patterns we gave her when she visited. Only gave her a very brief needle punch lesson so was quite impressed to see that project so beautifully done...and I especially loved her own color choices. She made numerous stockings but the two below she made for she and her husband. Why have I not yet done that??? Anyway..enjoy her lovely work.

Reets' Not-For-Everyone Picks
A BOOK - My friend Carin gave it to me a year ago and said that it was one of the best books she had ever read. I packed it in my carry on bag when heading back east recently and finally BEGAN! The plane offered the only reading time so I am still not far into it. I suppose recommending it at this point could be called presumptuous...risky at best. What the heck...so far I love it.
THE POISONWOOD BIBLE. By Barbara Kingsolver -
A New York Times Bestseller novel about a Babtist missionary and his family who take their mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. Remember my disclaimer please....not-for-everyone.
MUSIC - My music taste is all over the place I'll admit. My daughter's future father-in-law, we hope, was playing some 78s on his wonderful old victrola....you know...those glorious wind up antiques? Those sounds filled me with nostalgia. The following day I grabbed a handful of cd's from the bookmobile, rushed home, and enraptured myself in swing and big bandy type music. That music era delights me. Here are some of my favorites.
CD: BILLIE HOLIDAY: The Ultimate Collection. Includes two cd's and a dvd.
CD: LOUIS ARMSTRONG'S ALL-TIME GREATEST HITS
CD: HARRY CONNICK JR.: When My Heart Finds Christmas
I think that is enough for now...since you and I both have so much to do. I have to finish a new set of pincushions and a few other items for the new spring patterns. And of course finish up the holiday decorations and planning. All of us here want to thank you for your interest in our designs and for your communications with us. We'll leave you this year by
WISHING EVERY ONE OF YOU A HOLIDAY SEASON THAT IS FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH ALL THAT GLITTERS MUCH MERRIMENT AND HEAPS AND BUNDLES OF LOVE AND JOY!!
